WATCH: Street vendors assault traffic policeman in Karachi’s Saddar area

KARACHI: A traffic police officer was assaulted by street vendors in Karachi’s Saddar area after he attempted to clear encroachments from the road.

The incident was captured on video and widely shared on social media.

The police, in a statement, said the altercation occurred when a traffic police officer asked a stallholder to remove his cart from the road.

The suspect allegedly reacted violently and began assaulting the officer.

Video footage of the incident shows the officer being pushed and shoved, causing him to fall to the ground, while other stallholders and traffic police personnel attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation.

Police said a case has been registered over the incident, and one suspect, identified as Abdul Qadir, has been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest his accomplice, who managed to flee the scene.
