Punjab PDWP approves Rs3 billion uplift schemes for environment and tourism

LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved one development scheme and three position papers worth a cumulative Rs3 billion on Friday, covering Environment, Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries (FW&F) and Tourism sectors. 

The meeting was chaired by Planning and Development Board Chairman Dr Naeem Rauf.

The approved projects include the establishment of the Environment Protection Force across 10 zones of Punjab at an estimated cost of Rs2.948 billion, digital enumeration of linear plantations in Punjab (position paper for creation of posts), and strengthening of the PM&E Wing of the Forest Department (position paper for creation of posts and procurement of vehicles). 

Additionally, a Programme Management Unit (PMU) for planning, designing, and implementing the Tourism Promotion and Business Development Plan, including IT interventions, was approved. 

The meeting was attended by P&D Board Secretary Rafaqat Ali, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, board members, and other senior officers.

In a related development, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial announced the approval of 55 out of 88 sports schemes aimed at grassroots and elite sports development. These initiatives include multi-purpose sports complexes with modern facilities across the province.
