PVMA urges government to clear Rs6.5bn dues owed by Utility Stores Corporation

The Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA) has called on the federal government to immediately release Rs6.5 billion in outstanding payments owed by the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) to ghee and cooking oil producers, warning that continued delays threaten the industry’s stability.

In a statement, PVMA Chairman Sheikh Umer Rehan said the dues have been pending for over a year despite multiple reminders to the authorities. He noted that manufacturers across the country had already supplied goods worth Rs6.5 billion to USC but had not received payment, creating a severe liquidity crunch for the sector.

“Industrialists are struggling to meet operational costs and import raw materials, which is disrupting production cycles,” Rehan said, adding that prolonged non-payment could jeopardize the entire industry’s sustainability.

He said the PVMA had repeatedly raised the issue with the finance, industries, and commerce ministries, but no practical steps had been taken. “The delay in payments is eroding business confidence and damaging the government’s credibility,” he added.

Rehan urged Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries Haroon Akhtar Khan to personally intervene, initiate an inquiry, and ensure immediate disbursement of the dues.

He stressed that the ghee and cooking oil sector plays a vital role in food security and employment generation, and timely government payments are essential to support its continued contribution to the economy.
