Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has directed the concerned ministries and port authorities to fast-track the implementation of reforms aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness across Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Friday to assess infrastructural facilities at Karachi’s ports, the Deputy Prime Minister underscored that efficient and cost-effective port operations are vital for strengthening Pakistan’s trade connectivity and driving sustainable economic growth.
The meeting, held at the DPM’s Office, was attended by the Minister for Maritime Affairs, Secretaries of Maritime and Finance, and the Chairmen of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Port Qasim Authority (PQA).
Officials briefed the participants on recent modernization efforts that have enhanced cargo handling capacity and lowered transaction costs. The discussion also centered on integrating advanced IT and engineering systems to further streamline operations and improve overall port performance.
Senator Dar emphasized the need to accelerate these initiatives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transforming Pakistan’s maritime sector into a more competitive and technology-driven hub for regional trade.
