Pakistan to launch National Marble Policy to boost exports and industrial growth

Pakistan is set to introduce a National Marble Policy aimed at boosting exports and fostering industrial growth in the marble sector, according to Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan.

During a high-level meeting in Islamabad with the All Pakistan Marble Industry Association and the Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) on Thursday, Mr. Khan discussed issues affecting marble exports, the challenges in value addition, and the need for incentives to support the sector.

Khan announced that the marble sector would be declared an official industry, recognizing its potential to strengthen the national economy. He emphasized that while Pakistan’s marble is of world-class quality, there is a need for better value addition and branding to increase exports.

The SAPM noted that the government is working with industrial stakeholders to bring in policy reforms that will improve the competitiveness and productivity of the sector. He also highlighted that stabilizing the marble industry would generate new employment opportunities and provide support to investors and exporters.

Mr. Khan encouraged PASDEC and the private sector to adopt modern technologies and innovations in marble processing. He also directed PASDEC and the Marble Association to prepare proposals for collaboration with Italy, focusing on technology transfer, capacity building, and export enhancement.
