IESCO imposes Rs13.6 million in fines, arrests 42 in crackdown on electricity theft

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has imposed fines totaling up to Rs13.6 million on 158 individuals involved in electricity theft in October 2025. The company also announced the arrest of 42 suspects during its crackdown on power theft.

In a statement, IESCO revealed that its inspection teams had checked over 94,000 electricity meters, identifying 142 meters with direct electricity usage and 16 that were tampered with.

IESCO’s CEO, Engineer Ch. Khalid Mahmood, emphasized that power theft is a serious impediment to the country’s economic development and unfairly burdens honest consumers.

He confirmed that the anti-theft campaign has seen significant success across all operational areas, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi Cantt, Rawalpindi City, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, and surrounding regions, with strong collaboration from local police and law enforcement agencies.

Engineer Mahmood stressed that the crackdown will continue without any bias, vowing to eliminate electricity theft entirely to ensure a fair and sustainable power supply system. “The dream of a bright and prosperous Pakistan can only be realized by eradicating this menace,” he said.
