Second US-origin crude oil cargo arrives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received its second shipment of US crude oil, marking another milestone in the expanding energy trade between Islamabad and Washington.

The US oil tanker MT Albany has entered Pakistan’s maritime boundaries and is scheduled to berth today at the Cnergyico oil terminal in Balochistan. The vessel carries around one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil, making it the second major US oil carrier to dock at a Pakistani port.

Cnergyico has imported two shipments—each carrying one million barrels—of WTI crude oil from the United States, a first in Pakistan’s history. The company initiated this landmark import following a new bilateral trade agreement aimed at enhancing energy cooperation between the two countries.

The first US crude oil cargo, carried by MT Pegasus, arrived in Pakistan on October 29 after departing from Houston on September 14. The vessel anchored at Cnergyico’s offshore terminal, marking the beginning of direct US crude imports into Pakistan.

Industry experts view this development as a significant step toward diversifying Pakistan’s crude supply sources and strengthening its energy security. It also reflects the growing trade engagement between Pakistan and the United States in the energy sector.

By the end of October 2025, Pakistan received its first-ever shipment of US crude oil, with the cargo arriving at Cnergyico’s offshore terminal, known as the Single Point Mooring (SPM) port, located along the coast of Balochistan. This milestone marked the beginning of direct US crude imports into the country.

Earlier, in August, it was reported that Cnergyico would import one million barrels of crude oil from Vitol during the month. Following the successful delivery, the company’s management deemed the transaction commercially viable.

Subsequently, in September, Cnergyico placed an order for a second shipment of US crude, reflecting growing confidence in the economic feasibility of sourcing oil from the United States. According to the company’s vice chairman, the positive experience with the first cargo paved the way for more such imports in the future.

Notably, in 2023, Cnergyico had already made headlines by importing Pakistan’s first private-sector shipment of Russian crude oil, capitalizing on discounted prices offered by Moscow. The company’s move to diversify its crude supply sources — from Russia to the United States — underscores its strategic approach to securing energy supplies and strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global oil trade.
