Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Digital Payment Act finalized, to be presented for cabinet approval

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi, announced on Monday that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Digital Payment Act has been finalized and will soon be presented to the provincial cabinet for approval. The provincial government is advancing towards digitizing all administrative and financial operations with the aim of ensuring transparency, convenience, and efficiency in financial matters.

Under the new Digital Payment System, all transactions—whether between the public and the government, the government and citizens, or with traders—will be fully digital and transparent.

While chairing a meeting on the Digital Khyber Pakhtunkhwa initiative at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Sohail Afridi emphasized, “We are committed to making Khyber Pakhtunkhwa economically independent and a model of modern governance.” He directed that progress reviews on digitization be held every two weeks to ensure timely implementation.

During the meeting, it was revealed that 170 services have been identified for inclusion in the digital system, with 14 already digitized. These services include property transfer tax, property tax, arms licenses, irrigation fees (Abiana), driving licenses, plot registration, HEC admission fees, and hunting license fees, among others.

The meeting also highlighted that an additional 34 services will be digitized by December 2025, leading to projected savings of Rs. 12.3 billion. The full digitization of all 170 services is expected by June 2026.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Secretary of Science, Technology & IT Amjad Ali Khan, Secretary of Finance Aamir Sultan Tareen, Managing Director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board Dr. Akif, and other relevant officials.
