In a significant anti-smuggling crackdown, the Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Karachi, in collaboration with Sindh Rangers and Police, successfully thwarted a large-scale smuggling attempt involving foreign-origin fabric worth millions of rupees.
The operation, carried out on the night of November 9-10, 2025, followed credible intelligence.
Supervised by Assistant Collector (ASO) Bisma Noor Jatoi, the joint teams raided multiple warehouses located on Tariq Road, Karachi, where significant quantities of smuggled fabric were stored illegally.
During the operation, customs, Rangers, and police forces faced violent resistance from a mob of 200 to 300 individuals. The attackers resorted to stone-pelting, setting trucks on fire, and obstructing official operations.
Despite these challenges, the law enforcement teams displayed remarkable discipline and professionalism, ensuring the operation proceeded successfully.
The authorities seized 22 Mazda trucks and a 40-foot container packed with the smuggled fabric. The confiscated goods, valued in crores of rupees, have been moved to the ASO warehouse for further legal proceedings under the Customs Act, 1969.
An FIR has been filed at the Ferozabad Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against those arrested and other unidentified individuals involved in the resistance.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has commended the Karachi Enforcement team for their swift action and recognized the essential role played by the Sindh Rangers and Police in combating smuggling. The FBR reiterated its commitment to safeguarding national revenue and ensuring lawful trade practices across Pakistan.
