The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has arrested Mushtaq-ur-Rehman, a key suspect in the Rs40 billion Kohistan mega corruption case, during an operation in Islamabad, The News reported.

According to NAB sources, the latest arrest brings the total number of detainees in the case to 33. The bureau also seized several luxury vehicles from Islamabad, which had earlier been frozen under court orders.

Officials said multiple individuals, including political figures, have come under scrutiny and could be arrested in the coming days. The Kohistan case, among the province’s largest corruption investigations, involves the alleged embezzlement of billions of rupees through fake development projects and misuse of public funds.

Meanwhile, an Accountability Court in Peshawar sent another accused, Saranzeb, to jail on judicial remand. The case was heard by Accountability Judge Amjad Zia Siddiqui, with the NAB prosecutor, defense counsel, and investigating officer in attendance.

The investigating officer told the court that Saranzeb was involved in the Upper Kohistan scandal and had made key disclosures during the investigation. He said transactions amounting to Rs38.5 million had been conducted through various cheques, which were verified through bank statements.

NAB officials said the investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are expected in the coming days.
