EDB urges local automakers to shift focus toward exports

Engineering Development Board (EDB) Chief Executive Officer Hamad Ali Mansoor has urged local automobile manufacturers to shift focus toward exports, stating that Pakistan’s auto market is stronger than those of Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka.

As per reports, speaking at the inauguration of the Pakistan Auto Show 2025 at the Karachi Expo Centre, Mansoor said automakers and parts suppliers must now work toward securing export orders. “I ask automakers and auto parts manufacturers to work on future development and try to get export orders from the global market,” he told participants.

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Senior Vice President Saquib Fayyaz Magoon said the domestic automotive sector had made notable progress this year with the adoption of the “Made-in-Pakistan” model. “I hope this formula will be implemented in the entire auto industry since it has a key role in national development, employment and tax collection,” he added.

Magoon noted that new technology would be essential for further expansion of the sector, adding that a stable industrial policy was needed to strengthen manufacturing and engineering capabilities.

Earlier, Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) Senior Vice Chairman Shehryar Qadir said the event had brought together more than 172 exhibitors, including leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and local parts makers who are central to the supply chain.

“We especially welcome our international partners from China, Korea, Singapore and Iran, whose presence enriches this event and strengthens our global ties,” he said.
