Corporate donation hits record Rs 25.44 billion, with public-listed companies leading the charge

ISLAMABAD: Corporate giving in Pakistan reached an all-time high of Rs 25.44 billion in 2024, according to the latest Corporate Philanthropy Report released by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP). The findings were shared at the Corporate Philanthropy Awards 2025, held at Serena Hotel, Islamabad, with Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb attending as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the finance minister praised the corporate sector for sustaining social investment despite economic challenges. He noted that business leaders continue to play a “progressive and vital role” in national development.

“Corporate philanthropy is no longer a peripheral activity; it has become a meaningful pillar of Pakistan’s development agenda,” he said. “This generosity forms part of the moral economy of our country. Even in periods of fiscal pressure and shifting economic cycles, corporate giving has remained on an upward path, showing how responsibly the business community supports national progress. The award winners today are leading the way, reflecting a culture that values human development, social protection, and wider opportunity.”

Aurangzeb also appreciated PCP’s integrity and its role in promoting structured and transparent giving. He urged organisations that donate quietly to communicate their contributions more openly, saying that greater visibility builds confidence across the ecosystem and reduces the need for directive measures when the private sector chooses to lead voluntarily.

According to PCP, Public Listed Companies remained the top contributors with donations of Rs 18.23 billion, followed by Public Unlisted Companies (Rs 3.28bn) and Private Limited Companies (Rs 3.93bn). Firms listed on the KSE-100 index donated Rs 15.24bn, while KSE-30 constituents contributed Rs 8.80bn. The ceremony also featured a panel discussion titled “Philanthropy Ecosystem in Pakistan: Opportunities and Challenges,” chaired by Badaruddin F. Vellani. Panelists included Mehnaz Akbar Aziz, Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Asif Rasool, Dr. Faisal Sultan, and Zia Akhter Abbas. The discussion focused on policy gaps, taxation issues, and the need for stronger regulatory support to promote organized giving.

In his concluding remarks, PCP Chairman Zaffar A. Khan reaffirmed the importance of corporate philanthropy in complementing the government’s development efforts. He noted that the 20th edition of the survey underscores the private sector’s sustained commitment to social progress.
