BANNU: Bannu Woollen Mills Limited (BMW) has successfully commissioned a 1 MW on-grid solar power plant at its facility, now fully operational and providing clean energy to its manufacturing operations. The company, which manufactures and sells woollen yarn, cloth, and blankets, made the announcement in a notice to stakeholders on Tuesday.
The solar plant, located at the company’s mills on D.I. Khan Road, Bannu, is now supplying electricity to the facility, marking a significant step in BMW’s sustainability and energy-cost optimization strategy.
“This development is part of our broader efforts to reduce dependency on grid electricity, lower energy costs, and minimize our carbon footprint,” the company said in the notice.
The move aligns with the growing trend of solar energy adoption in Pakistan, as the sector continues to shift towards alternative energy sources. Solar power has gained popularity across both residential and commercial sectors.
Pakistan is witnessing an unprecedented growth in solar energy adoption, with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels totaling 33 gigawatts already installed, according to the Policy Research Institute for Equitable Development (PRIED).
As the solar energy sector expands, its impact on the national grid and overall energy consumption continues to be a topic of interest. However, the government and private sector are pursuing multiple initiatives to capitalize on the benefits of this cleaner, more affordable energy source.
