Barkat Frisian Agro Limited (BFAGRO) has announced a strategic backward integration initiative aimed at improving raw material supply security and cost efficiency through the establishment of poultry layer farming and feed operation.
According to a filing at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday, the company’s Board of Directors approved the development of poultry layer farming and feed operations during a meeting held on September 11, 2025.
The move is intended to improve supply security and cost efficiency, as well as reduce dependence on external vendors, according to a statement issued by the company. The investment will be directed towards establishing two poultry farms with a combined capacity of 225,000 birds.
These facilities are expected to produce approximately 200,000 eggs per day, which will cover around 20% of the company’s current daily egg requirement of 1,000,000 eggs.
The company aims to enhance quality and traceability in its egg production processes while also achieving cost optimization. By gaining greater control over the supply of raw materials, Barkat Frisian Agro hopes to ensure stability in pricing for both domestic and export markets. This initiative is part of the company’s long-term goal of meeting 50% of its egg supply requirements in-house.
The ownership structure of the project involves one of the farms being fully owned by the company, while the other will operate under a joint arrangement with a third-party partner. Both farms will be managed under service agreements, with the company retaining control over its biological assets.
This backward integration initiative is expected to improve the company’s resilience in the face of climate and market disruptions, further solidifying its position in the poultry and egg production sector.
Barkat Frisian Agro was incorporated on January 5, 2017, as a Private Limited Company under the repealed Companies Ordinance, 1984 (now governed by the Companies Act, 2017). The primary activity of the company is poultry egg processing.
