NAB returns Rs767 million to victims of New Metro City Gujar Khan housing scam

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday returned Rs767 million to victims of the New Metro City Gujar Khan housing scam, in a ceremony held at NAB’s headquarters in Islamabad, state-run news agency APP reported.

NAB Chairman Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed presided over the event, which was attended by Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Ehtesham Qadir Shah, senior NAB officers, and a large number of the affected individuals.

The funds were returned following NAB’s investigation into the project. In September 2024, NAB initiated an inquiry after receiving complaints from individuals who had paid for plots in the New Metro City Gujar Khan project but did not receive the promised land.

As a result of NAB’s intervention, the management of New Metro City Gujar Khan agreed to return the funds. A total of Rs. 767 million was recovered and distributed to 383 victims during the ceremony. Additionally, 57 victims opted for plot allotments, which have now been processed.

Addressing the attendees, NAB Chairman Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed reaffirmed that recovering public money lost through fraudulent schemes remains NAB’s top priority. He urged citizens to exercise caution and thoroughly verify investment opportunities before committing their savings.

Director General NAB (Islamabad/Rawalpindi) Waqar Ahmed Chauhan also commended the Bureau’s efforts, noting that the successful recovery of funds was a direct result of NAB’s dedication and leadership.

During the event, NAB Chairman Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed presented shields to the investigation team in recognition of their work on the case.
