OGDCL announces gas and condensate discovery at Bitrism East-1 in Sindh

Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the discovery of gas and condensate at the Bitrism East-1 well, located in District Khairpur, Sindh Province, according to a filing at the local bourse on Wednesday.

OGDCL holds a 95% working interest in the Bitrism Exploration License, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) owns the remaining 5%.

The well was spudded on June 30, 2025, and drilled to a depth of 3,800 meters in the Sembar Formation. In collaboration with its joint venture partner, OGDCL utilized its in-house expertise to carry out the drilling. Two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were performed on the well, focusing on the Lower Goru Formation, specifically the Massive and Basal Sands.

The DSTs revealed promising results, with the well producing substantial quantities of hydrocarbons. The combined production potential is estimated at 22.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) and 690 barrels of condensate per day (BCD) at a 32/64” choke.

This discovery from the Lower Goru Formation is expected to contribute to Pakistan’s efforts in closing the gap between energy supply and demand by increasing indigenous resources. Additionally, it will enhance OGDCL’s hydrocarbon reserves and support the country’s energy needs.
