Pakistan, Canada agree to streamline GM canola trade

Pakistan and Canada have pledged closer coordination to simplify trade in genetically modified (GM) canola.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Malik and Canadian High Commissioner Tarik Ali Khan in Islamabad. Secretary Climate Change Aisha Moriani also attended.

Officials discussed delays linked to Harmonized System (HS) codes and agreed to improve regulatory clarity. Dr Malik said the government is upgrading its digital dashboard to boost transparency and ease trade processes.

Institutional capacity-building to manage technical and biosafety requirements was highlighted as a priority. The Canadian envoy welcomed Pakistan’s efforts and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to expanding cooperation in agriculture and food sectors.
