Pakistan, EU discuss strengthening cooperation in science, research, and innovation

BRUSSELS: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Rahim Hayat Qureshi, met with Andreas Schwarz, Head of Cabinet to EU Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation, Eva Zaharieva, on Thursday to discuss advancing bilateral cooperation in science, research, and innovation.

The meeting focused on expanding Pakistan-EU collaboration through the Horizon Europe framework, emphasizing the importance of science diplomacy and intergovernmental scientific organizations. Both sides explored ways to foster closer ties between the startup ecosystems of Pakistan and the EU.

Ambassador Qureshi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to boosting innovation-driven growth and enhancing partnerships in knowledge-based sectors. The discussion also included exploring ways to increase the participation of Pakistani institutions in EU research initiatives and facilitating exchanges between entrepreneurs and innovators.

The meeting underscored mutual interest in utilizing innovation and technology to drive sustainable development and inclusive growth, with both parties agreeing on the need for stronger cooperation in these key areas.
