Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) in the areas of transport, logistics, and infrastructure development, as Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan held a meeting with Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Engineer Saleh Bin Nasser Aljasser on the sidelines of the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC 2025).
During the meeting, Minister Aljasser expressed strong interest in Pakistan’s communications sector and extended an invitation to Abdul Aleem Khan to visit Saudi Arabia in the near future to explore new avenues of bilateral collaboration.
The discussions centered on expanding Saudi investment in Pakistan’s national infrastructure projects, particularly in the motorway and logistics sectors. The Pakistani minister highlighted several ongoing and upcoming projects offering attractive opportunities for foreign investors, including the M-6 Motorway (Sukkur–Hyderabad), M-10 Motorway (Hyderabad–Karachi Port), M-13 Motorway (Kharian–Rawalpindi), and the Mansehra–Naran–Jalkhad–Chilas (MNJC) Road.
Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that the MNJC route, given its significant tourism potential, was a commercially viable investment option. He noted that Pakistan’s road infrastructure is “vibrant and self-sustaining,” supported by a toll collection system that efficiently funds maintenance and expansion projects.
He also briefed the Saudi delegation on Pakistan’s plans to expand motorway links between the northern regions and major urban centers to boost trade, tourism, and regional connectivity.
Referring to the Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement (SMDA) between the two countries, Aleem Khan said the accord had further deepened Pakistan–Saudi ties and provided a broader framework for cooperation beyond defense — particularly in infrastructure, transport, and logistics.
The minister invited Saudi investors to take part in key public–private partnership (PPP) initiatives under the National Highway Authority (NHA), which, he said, continues to play a central role in Pakistan’s economic integration and regional trade facilitation.
Aleem Khan expressed appreciation for the Saudi delegation’s participation in PIMEC 2025 and reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire for “continued and frequent engagements” to translate the strategic partnership into tangible economic progress.
During the meeting, the Saudi Minister sought Pakistan’s support in the upcoming International Maritime Organization (IMO) elections, to which Pakistan assured its full backing.
Minister Aljasser appreciated Pakistan’s infrastructure development efforts and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s willingness to collaborate in technology transfer, road safety, and logistics management. He also thanked Pakistan for its unwavering support to the Kingdom and praised Islamabad’s initiatives to strengthen connectivity and trade routes.
Aleem Khan concluded the discussion by reaffirming that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share “brotherly, time-tested relations” and that enhanced cooperation in infrastructure and logistics would further cement the partnership between the two nations.
