Pakistan working with global partners to advance fiscal reforms, climate resilience, and investment growth, says PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said his government was implementing comprehensive reforms to promote inclusive growth, strengthen institutions, and empower youth and women, calling development “the most effective remedy against instability and conflict.”

Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference hosted by the Senate of Pakistan, the prime minister said Pakistan was pursuing its domestic reform agenda while engaging with international partners to promote fiscal reforms, climate resilience, and investment facilitation for a resilient and prosperous future.

The event was attended by Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Secretary General Ek Nath Dakkar, parliamentarians, and representatives from international organizations.

Sharif highlighted government efforts to expand small and medium enterprises to create jobs, foster innovation, and increase economic participation. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace through dialogue and diplomacy, saying, “The true value of peace is most profoundly understood when we are confronted with the conflicts that continue to plague our world.”

Referring to regional security, he said Pakistan’s armed forces had demonstrated “remarkable preparedness” in response to unprovoked Indian aggression in May, adding that “having won the war, we need to win peace through sincere and honest efforts.”

Sharif also highlighted progress under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), now entering its second phase, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to work with all global partners, including the United States, European Union, Japan, and Gulf states.

Calling parliaments “custodians of the people’s will,” he said they had a duty to bring collective improvement to people’s lives. “My ultimate hope,” he said, “is that the peoples of all nations will stand united in promoting peace, advancing sustainable development, and strengthening collective security.”
