Overseas workers sent $3.2 billion in remittances to Pakistan in September 2025, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Thursday.
This marked an 11.3% year-on-year (YoY) increase from $2.9 billion in September 2024. On a month-on-month basis, remittances were up 1% from the previous month’s $3.1 billion.
In the first three months of the fiscal year (3MFY26), total remittance inflows reached $9.5 billion, a rise of 8.4% compared to the $8.8 billion recorded in the same period last year.
Khurram Schehzad, Advisor to the Finance Minister, stated that the government expects remittances to surpass $41 billion by the end of the current fiscal year. “Last year, Pakistan received $38.3 billion in remittances. This year, we anticipate an increase to over $41 billion,” Schehzad said on X.
He emphasized that remittances are a vital lifeline for millions of households, contributing to the stability of the country’s external accounts. “Remittances are not only a source of funding but also a symbol of national and economic resilience,” he added.
Breakdown shows that Pakistanis working in Saudi Arabia sent home the largest chunk of inflow, amounting to $751 million, marking a 2% increase compared to August 2025 and a 10% YoY rise.
UAE followed with $677 million, showing a 7% YoY increase from $563 million in September 2024. Remittances from the United Kingdom totaled $455 million, a slight decrease of 2% compared to August 2025 but a 7% increase compared to September 2024.
United States remittances saw a YoY decrease of 3%, with $269 million sent in September 2025. Remittances from the European Union reached $424 million for the month.
