ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday instructed the Economic Affairs Division to resolve all issues hindering investment in Pakistan’s medical sector by Pakistani-origin physicians based in the United States. He issued the directive during a meeting with a delegation of US-based Pakistani doctors at the Prime Minister House.
The prime minister asked the Ministry of Economic Affairs to formulate a workable roadmap for attracting investment in the health sector in consultation with the visiting physicians. The delegation expressed appreciation for the government’s focus on healthcare development and conveyed strong interest in contributing to medical investment initiatives, according to the PM Office.
The delegation was led by Dr Samir Shafi and included Dr Jawad Shah, Dr Tajammul Hussain, Dr Nauman Haider and social figure Rana Zahid Amir. Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan and Dr Saeed Akhtar also attended the meeting.
The development comes as Pakistan continues to encourage global investment in healthcare. On July 26, Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal told participants at the Boao Forum for Asia’s Global Health Forum in Beijing that Pakistan offers significant opportunities in the sector, with strong returns, regulatory support and government backing for international partners.
