Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday hailed Google’s decision to open offices and establish a product assembly line in Haripur, calling it a landmark step toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital economy.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the premier said that global technology giants like Google were showing renewed confidence in the government’s business-friendly and investment-oriented policies. He described the Haripur assembly line as a “positive development” that would accelerate local production and support the government’s vision of a digitally empowered Pakistan.
Shehbaz said the local manufacturing of IT products would make technology more affordable for citizens and help boost foreign exchange reserves by developing an export-oriented industry.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to making Pakistan a “digital nation,” the prime minister said empowering youth in the IT sector had been a top priority from the first day in office. He emphasized that initiatives such as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Google for IT training of Pakistani youth marked a significant step in this direction.
Highlighting ongoing efforts, he noted that the federal government was distributing laptops among 100,000 talented students to provide them with the necessary tools for innovation and career advancement in the tech sector.
“The IT training programs underway across the country, including for women, are enhancing the competitiveness of young Pakistanis in the international services industry,” the prime minister said. “These initiatives are helping our youth become self-reliant through dignified employment opportunities.”
Shehbaz added that the government was working on a fast-track basis to transform Pakistan into a regional hub for information technology and innovation.
The prime minister also commended the Federal Minister for Information Technology and his team for their continued efforts in advancing Pakistan’s IT landscape and promoting a culture of digital entrepreneurship.
