PTA clears PTCL-Telenor Pakistan acquisition, imposes conditions on service and compliance

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) for the acquisition of Telenor Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., the regulator said on Saturday.

The PTA said it conducted a detailed review of the deal, assessing its effects on market competition and consumer interests, and consulted relevant government bodies to ensure full statutory compliance.

The acquisition can move forward once all legal and commercial formalities are completed. Both PTCL and Telenor Pakistan are required to maintain uninterrupted services, uphold quality standards, and meet all licence obligations during the transition, the PTA added.

The authority confirmed it will closely monitor the process to protect consumer rights and ensure a competitive telecom sector.
