Saudi business delegation to visit Pakistan to boost trade ties

Following the recent defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, both countries are taking steps to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation. A high-powered delegation of Saudi businessmen and industrialists is scheduled to visit Pakistan next month, The News reported, citing sources.

The visit is being organised by Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to deepen economic engagement with the Kingdom.

In preparation, senior officials from the Saudi Embassy in Islamabad met with Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Mian Abu Zar Shad. Saudi Commercial Attaché Naif bin Abdulaziz Al-Harbi announced the establishment of a dedicated commercial desk at LCCI to facilitate trade initiatives and business linkages.

Al-Harbi highlighted Pakistan’s untapped economic potential and outlined plans to enable direct exports of Pakistani goods to Saudi Arabia, bypassing third-party channels in Europe to reduce costs and improve efficiency. He stated that structured policies will aim to strengthen economic cooperation and enhance people-to-people connections.

During the visit, the Saudi delegation is expected to hold B2B meetings with leading business figures from Punjab, with special sessions coordinated by the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade and the LCCI. There is also potential for representatives from provincial chambers to interact directly with the Saudi business leaders.

LCCI President Mian Abu Zar Shad emphasized the importance of trade over aid, proposing the revival of a maritime ferry service that operated between the two countries in the 1960s to facilitate commerce.

The visit is expected to advance economic collaboration and complement the strategic defence cooperation recently agreed between Islamabad and Riyadh.
