Sitara Peroxide shuts operations for BMR as chemical leak risk prompts emergency measures

Sitara Peroxide Limited has temporarily shut down its plant operations due to ongoing balancing, modernisation and replacement (BMR) work, while emergency measures have been activated to contain leakages of highly flammable chemicals triggered by a sudden change in weather, the company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday.

In its material information notice to PSX, the company confirmed that operations “are closed for envisaged balancing, modernization and replacement (BMR),” but an unexpected weather shift has intensified risks at the site.

Sitara Peroxide said management teams were now focused on preventing chemical erosion and leakage. “The management is taking emergent measures to control erosion resulting into leakages of highly flammable and valuable chemicals due to sudden change in weather,” the notice stated.

The company added that all available resources were being diverted toward mitigation efforts and that stakeholders were being kept informed. “The company is diverting all resources towards preventive measures and is informing all the stakeholders,” it said.

According to the notice, Sitara Peroxide has also triggered full emergency protocols. “All safety, emergency, and environmental response protocols are being fully activated for the safety of plant & machinery, employees, environment on top priority,” the company said.

The company noted that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
