KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is considering shutting gas supply to the industries on Saturday in a bid to provide relief to the consumers, the officials said on Wednesday.

The authority said that the gas supply situation in Karachi is improving following the restoration of 25 mmcfd to 30 mmcfd of natural gas from wells.

The move comes amid persistent gas supply issues across the metropolis in recent days, leading to difficulties faced by domestic consumers.

Gas shortages in the winter season are not uncommon and have now become a common phenomenon due to increased domestic demand for heating purposes.

It is pertinent to know that earlier this month, the federal government decided against hiking the gas tariff for the next six months.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) had raised the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) price by Rs10.68 per kg earlier this month, bringing the rate to Rs219.67 per kg.
