Three KP hydropower projects to add 330 MW within two years

Three hydropower projects being developed under the Provincial Energy Development Organization (PEDO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to generate a combined 330 megawatts (MW) of electricity within the next two years, Secretary Energy and Power Mohammad Zubair said.

The projects include the 84 MW Matiltan Hydropower Plant, the 88 MW Gabral Kalam plant, a 40-kilometer-long 132/220 kW transmission line, and the 36.6 MW Daral Khor plant, which was affected by recent floods.

Secretary Zubair, accompanied by PEDO CEO Habibullah and Swat Deputy Commissioner Saleem Jan, visited the project sites to review construction progress.

He said that work on the transmission line along the Swat corridor had been accelerated and is expected to be completed next year, enabling the supply of affordable electricity to the province’s industrial sector.

During the visit, officials inspected ongoing construction, addressed public complaints regarding water supply, and directed measures to resolve these issues. Employees at the Gorkin Matiltan project raised concerns over unpaid salaries, prompting immediate orders for arrears to be cleared.

The secretary also visited the under-construction staff colony at Gabral Kalam and instructed authorities to expedite work to ensure timely project completion. Additionally, he inspected the Gorkin Matiltan transmission line system and the flood-affected Daral Khor power plant in Bahrain.

Zubair Khan further directed the Assistant Commissioner of Bahrain to swiftly address public concerns and remove obstacles to ensure uninterrupted construction progress on all hydropower projects.
